Weekly Roundup #2

Weekly Roundup Cover Image

Firstly I would like to list the albums here, row by row, from left to right. I didn't do this last week which was stupid. So here goes:

  • Beirut - Artifacts
  • Fennesz - Endless Summer
  • Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
  • Floating Points - Cascade
  • Sade - Love Deluxe
  • The Necks - Travel
  • Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & the London Symphony Orchestra - Promises
  • Alaskan Tapes - Something Ephemeral
  • Golden Bug - Piscolabis II
  • Right! Two carry-overs from last week I think, Artifacts and Something Ephemeral. So I'm going to skip talking about those.

ENDLESS SUMMER! 4 years since I have discovered Fennesz, yet to listen to a single song I dislike. It's hard to even pick his best album, he's just THAT good. Endless Summer however is the most accessible of the lot, and makes a strong case for being his best. Stunning album, highly highly recommend. If you are not already into ambient/experimental music I believe this is a good album to get you into it.

I really am a huge doofus for taking this long to get into Kate Bush. I had seen it everywhere for years, but for some reason I couldn't ever get past the opening few tracks. Recently I gave it a thorough listen and boy... This album deserves every modicum of praise it receives. Crafted perfectly, exciting, catchy, dreamy, playful, exotic. Just perfect.

Was not expecting THAT from the new Floating Points album, Jesus. Very ravey, have not listened to it attentively enough to have an opinion yet, so I'll withhold.

Pretty much impossible to listen to this Sade album and not get an involuntary boner. So smooth. So sexy. So luxurious. Phew.

I saw this artist called The Necks getting a lot of hype for their upcoming release so I decided to check out their stuff...not very impressed but I'll give it a few more spins and check out some of their other stuff. Maybe I'll give the new record a listen too, when it releases.

Did not even clock I had this much floating points on my chart. Loved Promises since the day of its release. Always an album to calm me down and ground me.

Already talked about Alaskan Tapes last week I think. Cannot stop spinning this one. Highly highly recommend Millions if you're looking to get into his work.

I got super high and found this Golden Bug release on bandcamp (i think). I unfortunately do not remember anything about it. Skimmed it right now and it seems pretty interesting, so I will be revisiting :P
